The Australia U-23 men's national football team are heading to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2008 after qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 edition on Saturday.

Going into the AFC U-23 Championship third-place play-off needing victory to qualify, Graham Arnold's side came out on top in a tense 1-0 win over Uzbekistan U-23's.

Nicholas D'Agostino was the hero, with his 47th minute goal proving to be the winner in a match which also saw Uzbekistan play the final half-hour a man down following a straight red card.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) was this afternoon notified of the latest advice from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Brendan Murphy, regarding the coronavirus. The updated advice follows a meeting of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee on Wednesday afternoon.

This major new development confirmed that health experts believe the coronavirus is contagious before people show symptoms, and contacts of any confirmed cases must now be isolated following exposure.

The Westfield Matildas kicked off their Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualification campaign off in style and stormed to the top of Group B after beating Chinese Taipei 7-0 at Campbelltown Stadium on Friday.

Caitlin Foord's 37-minute hat-trick and Steph Catley's finish saw Australia enter the interval with a 4-0 buffer in the nation's opening fixture of the third round of the 2020 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Ante Milicic's side continued their dominance and added further strikes via Hayley Raso, Sam Kerr and Katrina Gorry, wrapping up a comprehensive victory over Chinese Taipei, ranked 40th in the world, in what is the first of three matches played over the next six days in Sydney, as Australia look to push on toward the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

A maiden Westfield Matildas hat-trick for Emily van Egmond has taken Australia another step closer to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games following a commanding 6-0 win over Thailand.

Van Egmond struck twice in the first half to get the ball rolling at Campbelltown Stadium, before sealing her treble in a rampaging second half that saw Kyah Simon add a brace and Hayley Raso also chime in with her second goal of the tournament.

At the other end of the pitch, Thailand barely threatened as the Westfield Matildas secured a second consecutive clean sheet and allowed their opponents just a single shot at goal throughout the match.

Emily van Egmond's stunning stoppage time effort ensured Australia finished the third round of the 2020 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament top of Group B after a tense 1-1 draw with China PR on Thursday night at Parramatta Stadium.

Chances came thick and fast as the Westfield Matildas and their opponents went blow for blow but neither side were able to break the deadlock until Tang Jiali popped up with a brilliant strike in the 86th minute.

But just as it appeared China would leapfrog Australia into pole position, van Egmond hamered in a brilliant injury time equaliser.
