Noah Botic scored twice to ignite the Joeys' FIFA U-17 World Cup™ hopes in a 2-1 win against five-time champions Nigeria.

The victory means Australia finish third in Group B, behind Nigeria and Ecuador, and advance to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-place finisher, having secured four points.

Australia’s U-17 men’s national football team, the Joeys, secured progression to the knockout phase of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 on Saturday (AEDT), after securing a 2-1 victory over Group B winners Nigeria at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.

Australia will now face either the winner of Group C (France, Chile or Korea Republic) or Group D (Senegal or Japan) in the last 16 of the tournament next week. Match details will be confirmed subsequent to other tournament results over the next 48 hours.

Australia’s Young Socceroos will travel to Chinese Taipei today (Sunday) ahead of their three Group H qualification matches for the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship.

Head Coach Gary van Egmond has had an extended squad in camp in the City of Gold Coast for a training camp over the past week, however has now finalised his 23-player roster for upcoming matches against Laos (6/11), Macau (8/11), and Chinese Taipei (10/11) in Kaohsiung over the next seven days.

Twenty-one of Australia’s representatives for the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers hail from Hyundai A-League clubs, while two players – goalkeeper Kai Calderbank-Park and midfielder Alberto Del Grosso – are aligned with clubs abroad.

Mary Fowler’s late winner against Vietnam booked the Westfield Young Matildas’ spot in the semi finals of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship.

Fowler pounced in the 84th-minute to score her third goal of the competition and keep Australia’s hopes of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup alive with a 1-0 win.

A cacophony of cowbells will ring around the Hyundai A-League next season as Macarthur FC prepare to make some serious noise during the 2020/21 campaign.

The Bulls are planning to shake up the competition after they signed off a $15m sponsorship deal with local businesses and announced they will become the first Hyundai A-League club to have two elected fans among their seven-strong board of directors, of which at least three will be female.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) and Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) have struck a new landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that closes the pay gap between Australia’s National Teams, the Caltex Socceroos and the Westfield Matildas.

The new, four-year CBA will see the Caltex Socceroos and Westfield Matildas receive a 24% share of an agreed aggregate of National Team Generated Revenues in 2019/20, rising by 1% each year of the 4-year deal.

Joeys striker Noah Botic has been revealed as the inaugural recipient of the Dylan Tombides Medal.

The 17-year-old Australian youth international was presented with the award in Brazil, as the Joeys prepared for this morning’s (AEDT) FIFA U-17 World Cup Round of 16 match against France.

The Medal, which was introduced through a joint PFA and FFA initiative in August, is awarded to a player selected from the Under 17 (Joeys), Under 20 (Young Socceroos) and Under 23 teams.

Australia will play Jordan in Amman next Thursday (local time), and Arnold has selected a slightly extended squad for the fixture in the Middle East as Hertha Berlin ace Mathew Leckie awaits the birth of his second child.
