- PANTHERS RE-SIGN YOUNG STAR
Written by JOSH CHAHAL, November 10, 2015
THE Panthers have announced that young playmaker Nathan Cleary has signed a new three-year deal with the club.
The 17-year-old, who was part of the Panthers premiership-winning NYC squad in 2015, will remain at the foot of the mountains until at least the end of the 2018 season.
Cleary is excited to continue his progression at Penrith and is looking forward to the opportunities that lay ahead.
“I’m hoping to play consistently in the under-20s this year but it would also be good to get a few games up in NSW Cup,” he said.
Cleary’s decision to re-sign despite the departure of his father Ivan was fueled by his desire to create his own name.
“To be honest it’s made it easier for me to carve my own path and follow the direction I want to go without having people speculate about the influence of my Dad,” he said.
“It’s an awesome feeling to get the deal done so I can focus on preparing myself for the upcoming season.”
The young halfback has resumed training with the Panthers NYC squad as they begin planning for the new season.
Cleary’s re-signing follows this morning’s announcement that winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak had extended his contact through until the end of 2017.
