Melbourne star Gareth Widdop faces a lengthy stint on the sidelines after suffering a dislocated hip in Monday's NRL loss to Gold Coast. The England international cried out in agony and punched the Skilled Park turf after suffering the injury in the second half of his team's 18-12 loss to the Titans.

Widdop was tackled by Titans duo Ryan James and Albert Kelly and instantly clutched at his leg after his knee appeared to catch in the turf as he went to ground.

The 24-year-old was stretchered off the field and taken by ambulance to the nearby Robina Hospital.

It's not clear at this stage how long Widdop will be out for with Storm coach Craig Bellamy saying a lot will depend on whether it was solely a dislocation or if any fractures had also occurred.

Said elsewhere - this game may have cost Melbourne a top 4 spot - or even the 8.
Wouldn't surprise me if they missed the eight. There defense hasn't been up to there usual standard and without Cronk to organize...

CAMERON Smith’s left ankle may require surgery after aggravating an old injury during last month’s Four Nations final.
The Melbourne Storm and Test skipper will on Monday night visit a surgeon and the club will decide on Tuesday whether or not he goes under the knife.
“He has not yet seen the surgeon, so I am reluctant to make any further comments until then,” Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said.
It the same ankle that troubled Smith towards the end of the last NRL season.

Without him for 4 months might make a difference. If he doesn't is he fully fit ?

With Slater also having issues it might be an interesting season for Melbourne.

looks like the whole season. Not to good for the Storm but it makes qld SOG fullback choice down to two players.

They'll be pushing for a mid-season signing surely. No real standout backs in their U20's team, and neither in their QCUP affiliates (Sunshine Coast Falcons and Easts Tigers).
