Back-rower Joe Stimson was placed on report in the 63rd minute of Melbourne’s 38-18 win over the Titans on Sunday for a late hit on Gold Coast five-eighth Tyrone Roberts, one of two Melbourne players who will be assessed by the match review committee.

Winger Suliasi Vunivalu could also be in strife for a challenge on Titans winger Phillip Sami but it is the new directive by the NRL that could have the most significant impact in the countdown to the finals series.

In other judiciary news, Storm winger Suliasi Vunivalu is facing a one-game ban for an incident involving Titans speedster Phillip Sami on Sunday.

Vunivalu tackled Sami as he leapt high to defuse a bomb in the 41st minute before he had returned to the ground.

Due to a prior similar offence in the past two years, Vunivalu is facing a week on the sidelines even if he submits an early guilty plea for the grade-one offence.

Storm forward Joe Stimson was also handed a grade-one dangerous contact charge over an incident in the second half of the same game, won comfortably by Melbourne.

Stimson can escape suspension and will be docked 75 demerit points if he enters an early guilty plea.

Will Chambers shapes as a surprise Storm departee as lucrative offers from overseas rugby and Melbourne's precarious salary cap situation cloud the veteran centre's future.

Chambers's shock demotion to Craig Bellamy's bench last week set tongues wagging given his 2020 contract in line with his status as a Queensland Origin representative and three-time grand final winner.

NRL.com understands the Storm have discussed a potential early release for Chambers should he seek a return to rugby union.

After getting the green light from the Storm to explore his options elsewhere, Brodie Croft is shaping as a leading contender to help solve Brisbane's halves dilemma.

As first reported by Fox Sports, Croft met with Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold in Sydney on Thursday to explore his options for next season.

The 22-year-old is contracted until the end of 2020 at Melbourne, with a mutual option for 2021, but Croft's management has approached the Storm to ask if they can source other possibilities for their client and they have granted permission.
