The more i read and here about this guy the more i think he is the man to be leading the game internationally! Marwan, i hope you stay in rugby league for the rest of your life. You sir are exactly what our game needs!

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash will hit back at rugby union following Sam Burgess’ cross code switch by looking to sign top union stars in the coming months.

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash will hit back at rugby union following Sam Burgess’ cross code switch by looking to sign top union stars in the coming months.

Koukash has gone on the offensive claiming that if the current Salford squad need strengthening, he will make a move for British Lions players after the Six Nations Championship is over.

“We as rugby league have to hit back,” says Koukash. “I am happy with the squad but if we have to strengthen, I will buy players from rugby union and I mean the very top players.

“We already have our eyes on a few and if this is what we have to do, we will do it. We are already on the lookout at players who have played for the British Lions. If we want them, we will get them. I will show rugby union what I can do.”

Koukash has also revealed that talks are on going regarding the possible future recruitment of top Aussie RL stars Billy Slater and Cameron Smith. He added: "This is not a publicity stunt and I will make many people eat their own words. I will make Salford the biggest club in the country and I have the cash and the resources to do just that.”

Koukash also believes the salary cap should increase gradually on a yearly basis. He will also take an exhibition match to Dubai and wants a Nines tournament in the UK similar to the one recently held in Australia.

It must be a pretty elastic salary cap for Koukash to have stayed under it already! :p

I don't thnk league *needs* 'rugby union stars', we have enough young talent coming through. And not that many would be suitable; I've watched quite a bit of RU lately, and would have a pretty short shopping list!

It's not so much that we need union stars. But what we need is the publicity that goes with a major signing and to remind the the public school educated bell ends that we can still pull there pants down. I think that all ESL and NRL should be allowed to sign one player each season from outside of rugby league should the club want to.

Agreed. Presumably the hoo-ha about Sam Burgess is as much to create media interest as anything else. If he's going into the centres at Bath, we'd be happy to take Kyle Eastmond, who I saw score a lovely try at the weekend.

Whenever I watch a RU game, it's always at the back of the mind, who looks like they'd be a real prospect in league? Mostly backs, of course; with a few exceptions, the forwards don't have the speed or handling skills required.

One thing they have got at the moment though, is good full-backs. England, Wales and Ireland all have excellent full-backs (Brown, Halfpenny, and Kearney). If you see the Six Nations on TV over there you'll have seen Mike Brown's starring performances.

I feel your pain! But it does throw up the odd good game still; England v Ireland was a good match between two good sides.
