Titans playmaker Tyrone Roberts did not have an achilles heel in the 2019 season. He had two of them.

The talented Roberts had a solid season for the Titans, marked most notably by his ascension to the team captaincy for 11 games in the absence of the injured Ryan James.

But his season was book-ended by achilles injuries to each leg.

Gold Coast Titans forward Ryan James has suffered a reoccurrence of the anterior cruciate ligament injury that prematurely ended his 2019 NRL season, with the experienced forward now expected to face an extended period on the sidelines.

Ryan initially injured his knee in the Round 6 match against Newcastle at Cbus Super Stadium last year, and unfortunately suffered a collision injury to the same knee while training at the venue this morning.

Tough luck. 8-9 months recovery with re-injury occurring so soon.

Gold Coast Titans forward Ryan James will revisit specialists on Monday after suffering a reoccurrence of his anterior cruciate ligament injury during training on Friday, to get a full diagnosis on the injury, his treatment and recovery.

Initial scans on Friday indicated James has again damaged the ACL he tore in Round 6 last year, an injury that ended his season.

James went down a week ago at training and will undergo surgery in the next fortnight - surgery that will most likely consist of three operations in one.

“I saw the surgeon on Wednesday and we came to the conclusion that we’ll get surgery done in two weeks time,” he said.

“It’ll be the season out. I’ve done my ACL, will give time for the medial to heal, fractured the top of the fibula and torn part of the meniscus.

Gold Coast are sweating on the fitness of giant prop Shannon Boyd for round one and he's not Justin Holbrook's only injury concern.

The Titans coach said he would know more later in the week about the availability of Boyd (shoulder), AJ Brimson (back) and Moeaki Fotuaika (wrist and knee) for the trip to Canberra next Friday.

The Titans lost Kevin Proctor to a hamstring injury before kick-off at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday and then lost Dale Copley (ribs) and Tyrone Roberts (ankle) during the first half of their clash with the Eels.

Proctor's late withdrawal forced a reshuffle with Tyrone Peachey moving into the starting side after initially being dropped to the bench when the side was named.

Playmaker Roberts has battled Achilles problems in recent years and looked distressed as he left the field after twisting his ankle awkwardly while trying to make a tackle.

Copley copped knees in the back from Nathan Brown as he crossed for the Titans' first try and was unable to continue in the match.

Parramatta and the Gold Coast have been granted extensions until Monday for their players facing charges due to the competition being suspended - Titans prop Moeaki Fotuaika will be suspended for one match if he accepts an early guilty plea while Eels lock Nathan Brown is facing a two-week ban as a result of carry-over points.

Brown will miss two matches irrespective of an early plea or a guilty finding. Brown was hit with a dangerous contact charge after colliding with Dale Copley at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday night.

Fotuaika was assessed with a grade-one dangerous contact following an incident involving Mitchell Moses in the 30th minute of the loss to the Eels.

He will be given a one-match ban if he is unsuccessful at the judiciary. A date for the hearing is yet to be announced.
