Championship rugby league side Whitehaven have named James Coyle as head coach until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old was appointed on a player-coach basis to work with Steve Deakin, who stepped down for personal reasons on the eve of the 2015 season.

Australian playmaker Brett Seymour, who served as fellow caretaker with Coyle, returns to playing duties.

Ireland international Coyle has represented Wigan, Widnes, Oldham and Barrow during his playing career.
