A hat-trick from Jodie Broughton helped Catalans ease to victory over Wakefield and end a run of five defeats.

Broughton opened the scoring before efforts from Matt Whitley and Samisoni Langi added to the home side's lead.

Reece Lyne crossed for the visitors but Broughton went over for his second to make it 20-6 at the break.

Broughton, playing for just the second time this season, completed his treble before Kenny Edwards and Tony Gigot (two) tries rounded off the win.

Catalans Dragons climbed back up above Wigan to fourth in Super League by surviving a late home onslaught to win at Huddersfield.

Wigan old boy Sam Tomkins played the starring role, with a first-half hat-trick of tries and four successful kicks for a personal 20-point haul.

Catalans Dragons winger Jodie Broughton will have surgery to repair a meniscal injury in his knee, which could result in an absence of up to four months. The 31-year-old only returned to action for the Super League club in May from a 10-month absence after knee and biceps injuries.

Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa has signed a two-year contract with the Super League club.

The 21-year-old French international joined the Perpignan-based team's academy in 2015 and has scored two tries in 56 league appearances.

Catalans Dragons centre Arthur Romano has signed a new one-year contract with the Super League club.

The 22-year-old, who has been part of the Dragons academy since 2015, scored three tries in 13 matches this season.

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara has signed a new contract until the end of the 2022 season. The ex-England coach, 48, led the French club to Challenge Cup success at Wembley in 2018 and to a seventh-place finish in Super League in 2019.

Catalans Dragons have re-signed half-back Josh Drinkwater on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old was part of the Dragons side that won the Challenge Cup in 2018 and was ever-present for Hull KR in Super League last season.

Wigan's Tom Davies has signed a two-year contract with Catalans Dragons.

The winger progressed through Wigan's youth system, making his Super League debut in 2017 where he scored 14 tries in 24 appearances.

The 22-year-old made 309 metres, the second highest ever in a Super League game, in a 2018 win against Catalans Dragons.

Davies suffered an ankle injury in April 2019 which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Davies is a good lad, but we have too many wingers, and are understocked in other areas.

Catalans Dragons' home Super League match against Leeds Rhinos on 30 May 2020, will be played in Toulouse. It will be part of a double-header, also including the Championship game between Toulouse and London Broncos.

During the same weekend, the other 12 second-tier clubs will feature in the annual Summer Bash, which will be in Blackpool for a sixth successive year.

Leeds, Catalans, London and Toulouse will meet again in another double-header at Headingley on 7 August.

Catalans most recently played in Toulouse in 2013, losing by one point to Hull KR. A crowd of 31,555 watched Catalans beat Wigan in May.

Matty Smith has been released from his Catalans Dragons contract by mutual agreement, the club have announced. The former England international, 32, was signed earlier this year and made 16 Super League appearances for the Dragons before joining Warrington Wolves on loan. Scrum-half Smith has had two spells at St Helens and played for Sheffield Eagles, Salford City Reds and Wigan.

His career has also included stints on loan at Celtic Crusaders and Widnes.

Catalans Dragons centre Brayden Wiliame has left the club with immediate effect and will move back to Australia to join St George.

The Fiji international arrived in 2017 making 72 appearances and scoring 30 tries for the Dragons.

Wiliame also helped Catalans win the 2018 Challenge Cup, scoring a try in the final at Wembley.

Catalans Dragons winger Lewis Tierney has been ruled out for four weeks after suffering a facial fracture.

The 25-year-old was forced off during a 22-10 pre-season friendly win over Toulouse Olympique on Saturday.

Former Wigan Warriors player Tierney scored nine tries in 21 appearances for Catalans last season.

The Perpignan-based outfit begin the 2020 Super League campaign at home against Huddersfield Giants on Saturday, 1 February.
