Betfred Super League
St Helens (4) 10
Tries: Welsby, Walmsley Goal: Coote
Castleford (6) 20
Tries: Eden 2, Holmes Goals: Richardson 4

Greg Eden's late intercept try helped Castleford Tigers stun 12-man champions St Helens and secure a first league win at Saints since October 1990.

The Tigers edged a tight, niggly first half as Eden scored in the corner after Jack Welsby did likewise for Saints.

Oliver Holmes' try gave Cas a further buffer while Saints' Tommy Makinson was sent off for a hit on Niall Evalds.

Alex Walmsley powered in for Saints, who desperately attacked the Cas line before Eden swept away to win it.

Daryl Powell's side realistically needed to win to keep their play-off hopes alive and turned in a courageous display against a Saints side fresh from victory over leaders Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

After Cas conceded the first try from a delightful move to the left which opened them up and allowed Welsby to score, the Tigers had chances of their own but failed to convert field position into points with Grant Millington's spills.

However, Millington and fellow props Suaia Matagi and Tyla Hepi constantly took the game to Saints' forwards and off the back of that, Evalds linked brilliantly to create the try for Eden out wide, while Holmes showed neat footwork to carve his way in.

Saints failed to find their rhythm for large periods, not helped by ruck indiscipline which was continually penalised by referee Ben Thaler, but Walmsley's surge was the jolt that they needed, particularly after Makinson's red card.

It looked like they would come up with the goods as another dangerous move swung to the right, but Eden swiped as the pass was heading to Kevin Naiqama's hands to finally bring one of rugby league's away day hoodoos to a close.

Betfred Challenge Cup
Leeds(0) 16
Tries: Martin 2, Sutcliffe Goals: Martin 2
Castleford(28) 40
Tries:Trueman, Mamo, O'Brien, Turner, Lawler, Eden 2 Goals:O'Brien 6

Rampant Castleford tore Leeds apart with a seven-try blitz to secure a resounding win at Headingley.

The Tigers, who were beaten finalists last season, ran in five unanswered tries before half-time.

Leeds fought back, with Rhyse Martin going over twice to reduce the deficit to 18 points.

But Greg Eden replied with two tries as Cas clinched their first Challenge Cup success over Leeds since 1998.

Castleford ripped through the Rhinos' ragged defence time and again in the first half, with Jacob Trueman and Jake Mamo bursting clear before Gareth O'Brien forced his way over for a third try.

The outlook became even gloomier for Leeds before half-time as Brad Dwyer was sin-binned for a trip - and the visitors capitalised on the extra space to stretch their lead to 28-0 with tries by Jordan Turner and George Lawler.

Interim Leeds coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan appeared to galvanise his troops at the interval and they responded with back-to-back scores from Martin and Liam Sutcliffe.

However, Eden intercepted Aidan Sezer's stray ball to keep Castleford on track and the full-back added gloss to their victory with his second try three minutes from time.

Betfred Super League
Wakefield (0) 4
Try: Kay
Castleford (14) 34
Tries: Fonua, Matagi, Edwards, McShane, Eden Goals: O'Brien 7

Castleford Tigers made it 17 straight derby wins with a thrashing of an off-colour Wakefield Trinity in a West Yorkshire encounter.

The Tigers built a 14-0 half-time lead with tries from Mahe Fonua and Suaia Matagi, as Trinity failed to get out of the blocks at all.

Kenny Edwards, Paul McShane and Greg Eden, for his 100th Tigers try, added the gloss to a dominant performance.

Liam Kay's score ensured Wakefield avoided a nilling on home turf.

Castleford Tigers (8) 16
Tries: Clare, Olpherts, Watts Goals: O'Brien 2
Leeds Rhinos (6) 14
Tries: Martin 2 Goal: Martin 3

Jack Sinfield, the son of Leeds great Kevin, starred on his Super League debut but failed to prevent a Rhinos defeat at Castleford.

James Clare and Derrell Olpherts put the hosts 8-0 up before Sinfield set Rhyse Martin up for Leeds' response with a grubber kick before the break.

The 17-year-old half-back was then held up over the line in the second half.

Both sides traded penalties before Liam Watts crucially went over for Tigers before Martin crossed again late on.

Castleford (14) 30
Tries: Olpherts 2, Qareqare, Trueman, Westerman, Fonua Goals: McShane 3
St Helens (0) 10
Tries: Sambou, Bell Goals: Martyn

Leaders St Helens slipped to their second defeat of the season as a much changed young team of seven debutants shipped six tries at Castleford.

Cas led 14-0 at the break after teenage winger Jason Qareqare's first-minute touchline score was followed by tries for Derrell Olpherts and Jake Trueman.

Olpherts, Joe Westerman and Mahe Fonua added three more after the break.

But the Saints stand-ins showed a lot of heart and were cheered by quickfire tries for Jumah Sambou and James Bell.
