I feel Canberra have a good chance this year - so long as Sticky can keep them focussed. Injury may well play a part though.

The big concern for the Raiders out of the game will be an incident in the 38th minute when Soliola was placed on report for a swinging arm that hit Adam Blair in the jaw.

Raiders forward Sia Soliola has escaped a suspension despite being charged by the NRL match review committee for a grade-one careless high tackle.

Soliola was charged for a tackle on Warriors veteran Adam Blair in the 39th minute for Saturday's win at Cbus Super Stadium.

He will be fined $1700 if he submits an early guilty plea of $2250 if he unsuccessfully challenges the charge.

Raiders recruit Curtis Scott and his legal team are hoping for an answer to their plea bargain this week.

Scott’s lawyer Sam Macedone is seeking to get the charges of allegedly assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest dismissed and was hopeful of an answer from NSW Police either this week or next.

Scott is facing seven charges from Australia Day where he was found asleep in parklands near the NRL headquarters in Moore Park.

The former Storm player’s hearing has been set down for July 14-15, but Macedone said delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic could push that out until November.

Macedone has been in negotiations with police in an attempt to fight the most serious charges levelled at his client.

If successful Scott will plead guilty to the less serious charges of behaving offensively in public and trespass.

Bateman is now a chance of being back for round 3 which is a big boost for the Raiders.

I think the Raiders will be right up there as they are strong all over the park and it starts with the very strong pack they have.

The three Raiders players who do not want a flu vaccination have the support of their teammates even if their stance hurts Canberra's ability to keep momentum going once the NRL season restarts.

International forwards Joe Tapine, Josh Papalii and Sia Soliola have signed the NRL's medical waiver, which allows them to play and train within NSW, Victoria and the ACT.

I guess they won’t be playing then if Canberra have to go to QLD.

Stories that John Bateman has reportedly been on the lookout for a new home since last year’s grand final are circulating.

Not sure why he'd be so keen to go.

Round 3:

Returning winger Jordan Rapana has been named on the reserves list. The Kiwi international could switch places on the bench with Michael Oldfield and play a utility back role. Canberra defeated the Storm twice at AAMI Park in 2019.

John Bateman will leave the Raiders at the end of this season.

The Raiders are also facing a battle to keep Nick Cotric at the club, who is also off-contract at season’s end.

Both would be useful pick-ups.
