Canberra forward John Bateman is progressing well but the Raiders will wait before giving him the green light to return if the NRL resumes on May 28.

The English international underwent off-season shoulder surgery and is continuing rehabilitation, primarily working on a program at his home whilst in isolation.

John Bateman will have further surgery to correct a shoulder problem, Canberra have confirmed.

Bateman, 26, had initial surgery in February, ruling him out of the start of the NRL season.

No date has been put on his return, but it is hoped he will play again this year.

Injuries are mounting for the Raiders very quickly.
