Raiders centre Joey Leilua was a shock withdrawal from Canberra's starting line up for their finals clash with Melbourne due to an eye complaint.

There was drama galore before the opening whistle at AAMI Park when Leilua was left distressed after his side ran through a plume of smoke on their way onto the field.

Pre-game fireworks caused the smoke.

After a lengthy delay, the powerful centre headed back to the dressing room for medical assistance with Bailey Simonsson starting the match in his place.

Leilua returned to the sidelines and sat on the Canberra bench 10 minutes into the match.

He came onto the field in the 20th minute of play.

Cotric - broken nose/lip

Canberra have received a boost leading into Friday's preliminary final against South Sydney with NSW representative Nick Cotric cleared to play.

Cotric required stitches to his upper lip and nose after copping an accidental boot to the face from Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen in the qualifying final win over the Storm in Melbourne during week one of the finals.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart on Monday said the winger would be fine to suit up against the Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium.

The Raiders are sweating on the fitness of key players for next Sunday's NRL grand final.

Joey Leilua is battling a leg injury which forced him off the field for the closing minutes of the 16-10 defeat of Souths in Friday night's preliminary final.

Five-eighth Jack Wighton was nursing a shoulder injury but is confident of playing, while hooker Josh Hodgson will have to pass HIA protocols after copping a knock to the head.

Hodgson also has injured his elbow making a try-saving tackle in the first half but was unconcerned after full-time.
