Canterbury winger Reimis Smith has charged with a grade one striking offence after his head made contact with Eels winger Maika Sivo.

An early guilty plea would see him miss one match. An unsuccessful trip to the judiciary would double the ban.

Bulldogs officials say at this stage the shoulder injury to Kieran Foran is not career-ending but the Kiwis international is not out of the woods yet as far as reconstructive surgery is concerned.

The positive signs on Sunday morning, following New Zealand’s 12-8 win over Great Britain at Auckland’s Eden Park, is that X-rays on Foran’s left shoulder were clear – there are no fractures in the joint.

Kieran Foran will require re-constructive surgery on the shoulder that he injured while representing New Zealand at the weekend.

Kieran had scans on his shoulder yesterday and will require initial exploratory surgery to determine the full extent of the injury.

The potential recovery period is likely to be six months, although this could be longer dependent on the results of the initial surgery.

In Bulldogs news, props Sauaso Sue and Renouf Toomaga have started running on the anti-gravity treadmill after respective knee and shoulder surgeries. They're not restricted in the gym.

Marcelo Montoya is also able to run on the AlterG machine and is set to run outside this week. Teammate Kerrod Holland (10 weeks post-shoulder surgery) is able to complete the running aspects of pre-season but won't participate in contact until after Christmas.

Raymond Faitala-Mariner had minor surgery on a wrist tear at season's end and is on restricted contact for the next fortnight. Canterbury playmaker Kieran Foran has declared he'll "stop at nothing" to reach his recovery goals after a serious shoulder injury.

Back rower Raymond Faitala-Mariner sustained a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle during a recent training session which required surgery. The forward will be sidelined for 8-10 weeks.

Canterbury forward Adam Elliott is out of the All Stars clash after suffering an ankle injury.

The Indigenous All Stars lock will not suit up against the New Zealand Maori side on the Gold Coast next Saturday after picking up a knock in an opposed session against the Bulldogs' under 20s side during the week.

Elliott is unlikely to be fit for Canterbury's trial against Canberra at Port Macquarie on February 29 but he is expected to be right for the season opener against Parramatta at Bankwest Stadium on March 12.
