Casualty Ward - Arrow, Tatola ruled out: https://www.nrl.com/news/2023/01/01...test-nrl-injury-news-updates-returns-details/

Rabbitohs coach reveals Latrell Mitchell dealing with a 'bit of an issue' in left knee: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/news-2...emetriou/75f80acf-0765-4b0c-9fdd-a689c9e60fcb

Got hit by a couple of big injuries last night which isn't good at all.

You'd think that with the short turnaround, that pretty much rules out Tatola for Round 2. I'd say Jai will also be gone for a couple of weeks at the very least you'd think, probably more. Hopefully Latrell is sweet, he was fine in the second half.

We really need Sele and Host back next week!!

Arrow out & probably Tatola--not good at all---Mitchell's health is a concern over a long season---was it a knee problem when he visited the USA -----or a hamstring !!????

From Zero Tackle,

Important to note that it does say the scans are 'precautionary' but it's still not ideal. Bit of a nervous wait on our hands. Fingers crossed he's okay because we just can't afford to lose him, especially not leading into the Panthers game. I trust our medial staff, they won't put him out there if he's not right, especially this early on in the year so if he gets the green light, it'll be great!

Latrell Mitchell set for scans following knee injury

Superstar fullback Latrell Mitchell is set to receive scans on his knee after injuring it during the Rabbitohs' 27-18 win over the Sharks.

Mitchell played a key role throughout the contest, throwing the final pass for Campbell Graham's second try and making a line break to match his 127 running metres, however the 25-year-old didn't emerge unscathed.

Latrell went down with a knee issue late in the first-half, with club doctors standing alongside him for a matter of minutes as they tested out his knee's mobility.

He played the entire second stanza, laying defenders in his wake on one run, however never looked like he'd managed to shake the niggle, with fears the custodian could be sidelined for the coming weeks.

Head coach Jason Demetriou confirmed the injury following the full-time siren.

"He's got a bit of an issue with his PCL, but we'll get it checked," Demetriou said in his post-game press conference.

"I thought he played outstanding in the second half."

It's possible to play with a PCL issue depending on its severity, with Greg Inglis suffering a similar injury during Origin in 2014. The former Rabbitoh was plagued by the injury even when he did return to the field, and hampered him for some time.

Mal Meninga knows it's something South Sydney must take a cautious approach towards.

"Obviously he's going to be high maintenance," Meninga said on the Fox Sports coverage.

"Through the year he's going to have to look after it.

"He's a big fella. He runs quite quick and he can step so he needs those ligaments intact.

"So a lot of work with recovery and prevention - and maybe less training to play."

The fullback will have scans on his knee within the next few days, and determine whether or not Latrell will be lacing the boots to face the reigning premiers at BlueBet Stadium on Thursday night.

Blake Taaffe is expected to don the No. 1 jersey if Latrell does miss the contest.

From Fox Sports, pretty good news I think given the circumstances. We all kind of had a feeling that Trell would be okay but to hear that Jai's hamstring is only minor and that he'll be back in a couple of weeks, possibly even sooner is a lot better news than I was expecting!!

Coach Jason Demetriou has revealed Latrell Mitchell is a massive chance of playing in the preliminary final rematch. Mitchell hurt his knee agaiinst the Sharks but pulled up better than expected and is likely to play on Thursday despite the short turnaround.

“He’s a big chance, he’s come out of the game pretty well. We were a bit worried about the knee at first but he ran beautifully in the second half and he’s come up ok,” Demetriou said on NRL 360. “We’ll get a good look at him tomorrow morning but he’s a chance. I’d say he’s yeah, he’s a massive chance of playing.”

Souths forward Jai Arrow (hamstring) will miss at least one week, while Tevita Tatola will have to pass concussion protocols meaning the Bunnies face a reshuffle in the forwards. Jed Cartwright is the likely man to take Arrow’s spot, while Daniel Suluka-Fifita could fill in for Tatola off the bench.

“Jai is only a minor hamstring strain so he’s hopeful of Roosters (in two weeks) if not the week after that,” Demtriou said.

Junior in a knee brace talk it’s him MCL and he’s facing 3-6 weeks out. Shaq foot/ankle talk around he’s out 6 weeks.

We can’t take a trick.

So we could be without Arrow, Tatola, Sele, Havili, Shaq, Knight next week great just about all our props Keaon would have to play middle. Bench would look light……

Tom
Cook
Moale
Keaon
Chee Kam
Murray

Host
DSF
Jed
Duncan (needs an exemption)

JD said at the presser last night he does not wanna risk Arrow if he’s not quite right. We have no props left Keaon will have to play some middle.

Where have you heard these timelines? Just rumors at the moment? Hope that info in incorrect.

I did see Tatola in a knee brace on Instagram though.

Really not good, we can't catch any luck with injures at the moment and it's really hurting us. Get one back and one gets injured it seems. Not good at all.

Walker and Chee Kam Charged: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2023/03/18/walker-and-chee-kam-charged/

From Zero Tackle,

Rabbitohs forward suffers foot injury

The Rabbitohs' injury woes have continued with Shaquai Mitchell joining Hame Sele on the sidelines with a foot injury.

Mitchell, who played 24 minutes last night against the Roosters, was seen leaving on crutches after the game.

Mitchell will join Hame Sele on the sidelines after he failed his HIA test. Sele left the field in the opening minute after injuring himself while attempting to make a tackle on Victor Radley.

"He's got a foot injury," Souths coach Jason Demetriou said after the game.

"Patching up middles at the moment. We can't get two back, we lose two. But it is what it is."

However, it is not all bad news for Rabbitohs fans with Jason Demetriou issuing an updated timeline for Jai Arrow and Jacob Host.

Host has been recovering from a calf strain but will be available for selection next week. The second rower has been with the team since 2021 and has made a total of 29 appearances in the red and green.

On the other hand, Arrow could still be in doubt for next week, however, Demetriou and the Rabbitohs' coaching staff will continually check on him during the week.

"We're gonna check on Jai (Arrow) early in the week but I'm not going to rush him. Jacob Host will come back, so it gives us a bit of flexibility there."

"Daniel Suluka-Fifita will play next week. He'll be available for first grade as well. So, we've got some depth still there to work with."

We really are having rotten luck aren't we??

Tatola gone for a couple, I'd say Shaq gone for AT LEAST four weeks, Hame this week, and now Jai has re-injured his hammy and is going to be out for another month???!! My god, that's just rotten luck. Please lord, some good luck would be nice for a change.

It is concerning that's for sure. Take that many quality middles out of any team and they'll find it a lot harder.

However, we can do it, we can get by. A real next man up mentality and a chance for some lesser known guys to show us what they've got. I have faith in them!

Time for our spine to really stand up and lead the way too.

Souths blame Radley hip-drop tackle for eight-week Mitchell injury: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/so...ght-week-mitchell-injury-20230320-p5ctms.html

No doubt it's a hip drop. This is just complete BS!! How was Radley not charged? How did he get off it? We're now without one of our best forwards so far this year because of it.

Also, the news about Junior has been confirmed. Huge blow, not good at all. From Zero Tackle,

Rabbitohs injury woes worsen with another forward out

The South Sydney Rabbitohs injury crisis has worsened with prop forward Junior Tatola set to miss the next three to four weeks with an MCL knee injury.

Tatola is the latest blow to the Rabbitohs forwards stock and will join Hame Sele, Liam Knight, Shaquai Mitchell, Siliva Havili and Jai Arrow on the sidelines.

Reported by The Daily Telegraph, Tatola suffered an MCL knee injury against the Roosters last Friday night. This will make him unavailable to face the Manly Sea Eagles in a huge clash this weekend.

The injury will also see him miss the next three to four weeks. This means he is more than likely to miss future games against the Storm, Bulldogs, Dolphins and Panthers.

Voted the club's best player last season, Tatola returned last week after enduring a concussion within the first minute in their Round 1 match against the Cronulla Sharks.

With six starting forward unavailable for selection, coach Jason Demetriou is likely to bring in Jacob Host and Daniel Suluka-Fifita into the final 17.
