He certainly,IMO,played some of his very best footy last season !! I haven't always been happy with AR's ability over the years as a well-rounded player--he often just appeared to have a kicking game & not much else---I think under BENNETT he has improved his general all-round game & is a much better player !! It does appear that Sths are maybe looking to the future & don't see Adam as a long-term benefit at this point !! We now have a young Latrell Mitchell who is an excellent goal-kicker which doesn't help AR's cause !!

Im not worried about this as it's all speculation
Are you talking about Reyno?

I am just concerned as since Sutto retired he’s is now my fav player and only a one year extension is an insult after what he’s done for us

Reynolds is tough as they come and people keep saying he is always injured . He has not missed many games according to the stats . He can play busted and the end result will be 2 years with a option . People are dreaming if they think we would let Reynolds go with 2 kids waiting in the wings who have not played NRL .

This is a similar type scenario to Sutto .

Everyone was saying too old and called for his head only for him to produce two of the best years of football in his career.

At this point in time there isn’t one player in either list beside Dreadon that I would contemplate grabbing.

Reynolds might not be at his very best in 2 years or he might be about the same.
Nobody knows what’s to happen , but as a junior , a proud skipper one of the best halves in the game a premiership winner and consistent finals player and current pointscoring Champ of the NRL IMO he deserves much better than a one year deal offer.

Reyno is a club legend and always will be. Hopefully this year will be #22 but clubs need to be ruthless to stay ahead of other ruthless clubs. Time is passing Taaffe by. He is about to turn 22 and he won’t stay around for ever. He either has the goods to dominate FG or he doesn’t. Time to make the call Souths.

Looking at the current squad and how long everyone else is under contract for I think if we lock in Reyno for more than 2yrs it doesn’t leave any wiggle room if the current squad dont perform.

Also it could inadvertently result in us losing Cody when he comes off contract also end of 2022

The next interesting thing will be what length deals we are proposing for Su’a and Gagai

2yrs tops for Reyno take it or leave it and I think we should wait until we get Su’a signed before we finalize Reyno

The roosters didn't even offer Pearce that. But they then went onto win 2 premierships with another half-back. You have to take the emotion out of it if you want to be successful. As I've said previously. Let's see how Reyno is going mid-year before assessing. But anything more than a 2yr deal would be suicidal.

Bennett has a track record of making hard calls on club legends: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/be...rd-calls-on-club-legends-20210223-p57528.html

Yes, this is true, Bennett does have a track record with stuff like this however, those examples in the past are different. A lot of those examples have been when a player has already started to show signs of a decline in form. This is currently not the case for Reyno as he had a close to career best year in 2020.

Completely agree with both Daley and Geyer there. Man, I really hope this whole thing with Reyno is being blown way out of proportion. He has stated that he loves this club and his preference is to stay. Come on Souths, we just have to offer him a decent deal and we just have to get it done!

Why Souths are reluctant to grant Reynolds long-term deal

South Sydney have no appetite to grant Adam Reynolds his four-year contract wish after a similar long-term deal for another senior player, Sam Burgess, left the club millions of dollars out of pocket.

The day after Reynolds expressed his disappointment with the club’s one-year extension, sources with knowledge of the discussions said they were confident the skipper would stay put another couple of years, with Blake Taaffe the frontrunner to succeed him in the No. 7 jersey in the long term.

Reynolds is earning close to $1m but knows he will need to settle for around $600,000 to $650,000 to remain at Redfern in 2022 and 2023.

The club gave Burgess a four-year, $4m extension when he was nearly 30, only for the Englishman to be forced into medical retirement 12 months later. While Burgess’ payout did not count towards Souths’ salary cap, it seriously dented the club’s bottom line.

Reynolds himself said this week he had never felt physically or mentally stronger, but Souths are not prepared to take any similar risks.

The sticking point for Reynolds will be the length of his next deal, rather than money. Souths acknowledge the 30-year-old is one of the most-gifted goal-kickers to ever lace on a boot, and respect the fact he has not once caused them grief off the field.

There are also plans to move him into a coaching role and to help with the club’s pathways program, similar to the one another club legend, John Sutton, is now enjoying.

Reynolds wants three to four years based on how his body feels and the security it provides for his wife and four young children.

Parramatta have Mitchell Moses unsigned beyond this year, Cronulla are waiting to see how Shaun Johnson returns from an Achilles injury, while Reynolds won a premiership with Michael Maguire, the man now in charge at Wests Tigers and could easily accommodate his little mate by moving Luke Brooks into five-eighth.

Souths’ bitter rivals, the Sydney Roosters, would be aware Reynolds won a premiership with their own playmaker Luke Keary. But the Roosters are unlikely to afford a representative player like Reynolds, and are already drafting a decent extension for teen rookie Sam Walker.

Taaffe led South Sydney’s Jersey Flegg side to premiership glory in 2019 and he has been named on the bench for Saturday night’s Charity Shield against St George Illawarra. Taaffe has spent most of the summer training at fullback.

With Wayne Bennett leaving the club at the end of the year, the supercoach is not expected to have much input about Reynolds’ next contract. But Bennett’s opinion will still be valued by his successor Jason Demetriou and the club’s recruitment and retention committee.

What is not well known is that Bennett has given Demetriou plenty of say about the club’s roster the past 12 months given it will be Demetriou who ultimately has to get the best out of the players.

Reynolds has no interest playing in the Super League and quipped on Monday he was a better chance of heading to the US to try his luck as an NFL punter. So lethal is his boot that Port Adelaide coaching staff complimented him on his power and style during a hit-and-run pre-season training run a couple of years ago.

It's not just the games he has missed but he often seems to be hurt on the field but plays on. I'm sure the Club would offer him a new 3 year deal if they were confident his body was up to it.

For now we need Reynolds' kicking in general play. It might not be exciting, but it is so important. When his time is nearly up, we should be looking to sign a good halfback, if none of our backups at the Club are up to it.
