Shattered Souths players on Johnston departure: https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...e/news-story/d36db9e5a7f27bcedd2648ba39f32ca6

I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact that AJ won't be here next year. He's one of those players that it Souths to the core.

Love this! Good idea NRL! Should help speed the game up even more.

The For argument is bad. They say they want to get more decisions right but then limit the amount of decisions going to the bunker, but the bunker is used for the most important decisions. I would rather them keep the bunker/video ref instead of the captain's challenge.
Agreed. I'm with you on that one bro.

Bunnies release Gebbie: https://www.thenational.com.pg/bunnies-release-gebbie/#:~:text=“Edene has been released from, had 34 on our roster

Not surprised Gebbie has been released to be honest as he hasn't been spotted around the club for quite sometime. A bit of a shame but it is what it is.

In other news, how cool is this gonna be!?

A shame Gebbie has gone.
He may be back next year. Better to be playing than sitting around twiddling your thumbs.
I think the game will lose a few fringe players who will have to make a Choice between football and a career.

Gus - The real reason Brisbane Broncos axed Wayne Bennett and turned to Anthony Seibold: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...d/news-story/f72b33d69b45d7cd0b784a9dca9f04fc

From Sporting News,

Phil Gould warns pedantic referees could ‘kill our game’, questions need for six-again marker rule

Phil Gould has questioned the NRL’s motivation for applying the six-again rule to marker infringements and warned pedantic refereeing could ‘kill our game’.

The NRL this week extended the rule that allows referees to restart the tackle count for ruck infringements to include markers who are not square or leave the play the ball early .

Speaking on Wide World of Sports’ Six Tackles with Gus podcast, Gould admitted the six-again rule introduced in Round 3 has been ‘good for the game’.

However, the premiership-winning coach warned referees have already become overzealous with their policing of the ruck and warned the NRL against following the same path as rugby union.

“You can’t have our game becoming too technical, it’s killed rugby,” Gould said.

“Technicalities have killed rugby and it will kill our game too if we get too technical with these things.

“The penalties have got to be obvious for all to see, in my mind.”

Gould added he has seen no reason to include marker infringements under the six-again umbrella over the past five rounds.

“I’ve got to say I’ve watched every game every week and I haven’t seen marker defence as an issue, at all, in any of the games,” he said.

“I haven’t seen the necessity for a crackdown and I hope it doesn’t lead to a crackdown.

“We’re getting too many pedantic, technical six-again calls.

“… When the fans come back to (stadiums) … the fans aren’t going to cop not knowing what a penalty was for.

“Don’t be too technical for the fans because they’ll lose interest very, very quickly.”

He also openly questioned how head office arrived at the decision to crackdown on markers, warning the decision should not have been influenced by referees or coaches.

“I would assume that they’re doing the data every week but I don’t think we want to get into the habit of every month having a review and suddenly tweaking the rule,” he said.

“… I was a little surprised by the decision this week and I’m intrigued to see who instigated it … and who influenced who to make that decision.

“Because if it’s come from the referees and coaches then we’re wrong.”

Meanwhile, NRL Head of Football Graham Annesley told NRL.com the rule tweak was made in consultation with referees coach Bernard Sutton after noticing players were taking ‘liberties’ around the play the ball.

Since this so-called “Bubble”, Information is hard to come by.

We only have 22 Players signed for 2021 in our Top 30.

All I do know is AJ wants to stay, you have all read the story, it is factual.
At this stage he is going…
An early tip is he will go to the Scum Rorters!

True or Not???
I can’t confirm this but there is a report doing the rounds that AJ wants X amount, the club can only afford Y…

Not sure on the figures but AJ is definitely on $350k in 2020, under the cap.
I am pretty sure the Fox will be coming, how much is he asking for?
no Idea!

As far as the salary cap being the Issue we have had to upgrade quite a few players last season and the season before.

The salary Cap is so confusing, It is just not quite as simple as many think.
Sure GI, Sam, George leaving were on big money but…

Signing Mitchell and Arrow and young Joseph Suaalii plus re-signing and upgrading
Murray, Cook, Walker, Graham, Tatola Thomas, SuA, Knight,
has put a strain on our Cap.

Lowe and Roberts are on more as the Cows/Shoncos respectively paying part of their contracts won’t apply in 2020, 2021

Off-Contract: 11 Players, 9 are Top 30.
Alex Johnston
Cory Dennis
Steven Marsters
Bayley Sironen
Kurt Dillon
Ky Rodwell
Patrick Mago
Hame Sele

Tom Amone, I was told a deal was imminent, I haven’t heard anything since his Injury. He had surgery on Tuesday 30th of June!

Development Players 2
Jack Johns
Brock Gardner

There are a few points there.

  • The $350k is factual.
  • The offer? I heard that but I don’t have confirmation.
  • Going to the Rorts? A cousin of AJs told me that a while ago she said he wants to stay close to home.
The Club told AJ the news last year but it only hit the papers this week.
  • The Fox, it seems it will happen but a few things have to happen first.
A swap or they re-sign that Fijian winger that went to rugby, his name escapes me.

Couple of tidbits:
Gebbie was never on any kind of 1sts contract, not even developmental.
he was let go after the pre season so not really sure why thats a story now.
Reynolds likely to be off to Super League next year
Between them Gagai and Allan are on approximately 1.1 million
.

I can’t believe Allan would be on 350k, don’t buy it

Thanks for the info. Who knows if that's true but appreciate it anyway.

Looking at that, you can certainly see why the cap is tight. It's understandable to be honest with the caliber of players we have retained and/or signed.

If Reyno is going to play Super League, then that tells me his body is worn down, and he probably doesn't have much footy left in him.
