The Titans’ new coaching structure for 2020 is now complete, with two-time Intrust Super Cup premiership-winning coach Jim Lenihan to join the Gold Coast’s NRL team as assistant coach for the next three seasons. Burleigh Bears chief executive Damian Driscoll said Lenihan deserved his opportunity in an NRL system, and said his new role with the Titans was a reward for Lenihan’s hard work, and a reflection of the quality of the Intrust Super Cup.
“Jimmy will absolutely be missed. He has been an integral part of the Burleigh Bears for a very long time,” Driscoll said.

The Burleigh Bears have announced the appointment of Rick Stone as head coach for the next two Intrust Super Cup seasons.

The two-time Intrust Super Cup premiership-winning coach is no stranger to the Bears, having previously coached over 200 games at the club from 1995 to 2005. In that time Stone lead the club to premierships in 1999 and 2004.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls, determined to go one better in 2020, have signed former NRL and Super Rugby star Lachlan Maranta.

The 27-year-old winger and fullback, who most notably spent five seasons at the Brisbane Broncos, brings a wealth of experience to Wynnum Manly's backline.

A 15-year journey around the country and across the globe has led Rick Stone back to where it began as coach of the Burleigh Bears.

Stone led the Bears for more than 200 games between 1995 and 2005, winning premierships in 1999 and 2004 before taking up an assistant coach position at the Newcastle Knights.

He went on to become head coach of the Knights as well as the Fiji national team, before heading to the English Super League to coach Huddersfield in 2016.
In 2019 he coached the Sydney Roosters NRLW team before agreeing to return to Burleigh on a two-year deal earlier this month.

After being named as just the second-ever person to be head coach of the PNG Hunters, Matt Church said he was acutely aware of the historic nature of his appointment and felt honoured to be taking on the role.

Signed on to coach the 2017 Intrust Super Cup premiers for the 2020 and 2021 seasons; Church, who is regarded as one of the best up-and-coming coaches in Queensland, could prove a key signing for a club looking to bounce back from a difficult 2019 season.

Intrust Super Cup premiers the Burleigh Bears and ISC finalists Tweed Seagulls will remain a part of the Gold Coast Titans family after agreeing to an extension of the clubs’ affiliation agreement until the end of 2022.

The agreement ensures that a major component of the Titans’ NRL development pathway remains intact, with the best juniors produced in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region able to reach the game’s elite level without ever leaving their own community.

Queensland Rugby League has approved a key change to the XXXX Queensland Residents selection criteria, with this year’s team to be picked on State of Origin eligibility instead of the previous ‘residents’ basis.

This shift is in line with the QRL’s strategic focus, aimed at increasing the number of Queensland eligible players in the National Rugby League.
